Therefore, they won’t work in other graphic software (Photoshop, Krita, etc.). If there are alternative versions of a certain brush set that work in other software, I add the info and link to them in the brush set’s description.

List of Procreate SKIN Brushes

The idea of creating this list popped up when I was gathering the previous list (hair brushes).

I’ve noticed that there are sets that are generally “portrait brush sets”, that include hair brushes, a few skin brushes, and other brushes for details – and some of them were basically a “combo pack” of smaller brush sets (which were dedicated to drawing only one thing, for example – hair).  There weren’t many skin brushes included in them, so I decided to look around and see what brush sets are there on the internet that offers specifically “skin brushes and textures” for Procreate.

Some of the brush sets surprised me very positively, and I wish I found them sooner – they would save me so much time!

Ps. I always try to add some pieces of information about the artist who created the brush set – many of them use these brushes daily for creating their illustrations. And very often they have created other brush sets that are listed on their websites and are worth checking out!
Please show them some appreciation if you like their brushes!

If you are looking for a set that will help you to paint realistic skin with ease, check out this brush pack created by Floortje aka “Art with Flo” !

Flo provides us 16 brushes with various spots and skin textures, which is a game-changer and speeds up the painting process. You can create various freckles literally in a second, it also allows you to add subtle texture with noise brushes, spotty skin texture and skin sparkles.

The author advises adding the texture on a new layer for full control, you can remove some of the skin texture with an eraser or a layer mask.

If you are viewing this article on a smartphone (or generally on a small screen), you may not see the skin’s texture on the promo image, so I also attached below Flo’s tutorial on how to paint skin in Procreate, where you can see also this brush pack in action.

How to paint skin in Procreate by Art with Flo:

I recommend this video especially to beginners – it will help you to understand the steps of drawing skin in Procreate. Apart from this, Flo gives lots of great tips and tricks that generally will be helpful in digital painting. Check out her other tutorials on her Youtuber channel: ArtWithFlo

And here’s the second pack of skin brushes created by Floortje aka Art with Flo.
At first, it looks very similar to the previous pack, but the brushes differ. Apart from the grain and freckle brushes, it has brushes that imitate skin pores and veins + has a special blender brush to blend skin, adding subtle texture while blending using the smudge tool.

This pack has basically everything you need to draw realistic skin, so If you are looking for different brushes (variety of freckles, pores, skin texture, skin glitter + blender) in one pack, this is the right one.

Huge props for the skin veins brush, couldn’t find any other pack that has such brushes!

3. Skin Painting Procreate Brushes By Mels Brushes

Mel is a skilled artist, and a creator of one of my most fav brush packs (fur brushes), so I was happy to put in this list her another pack. She has been creating design assets since 2006, and she uses them regularly in her own works.

So, what I like about this pack is the extremely useable range of skin textures – you will find here the “fine” skin texture, but also “aged skin”, “coarse skin”, “open pores”, blemishes, and even the wrinkles and the “zit”.

Plus, there’s an extra scales brush in case you fancy creating alien reptiles!

4. Freckles Brushes for Procreate By FaeryDesign

Zipped File Size: 60.78 KB

In this pack created by  FaeryDesign, you will find 30 brushes and 60 swatches for painting skin. It’s perfect if you are not only looking for the brushes, but also for the right skin tone to make your portraits even more realistic.

The brushes are mainly for painting freckles, however, I’m mentioning this brush pack here because of the brushes + swatches combo. It will be a nice addition to your brushes.

5. Skin Texture Brush set for Procreate By MessyArtss

Here’s a brush pack created by Laura aka MessyArtss, who specializes in realistic painting.

What you will find here are two Soft Brushes, Brush for pores/Milia under eyes, Freckles, Glow and Skin Texture (4) brushes.

Apart from that, Laura included also 2 skin palettes, one dedicated to the light skin tone, and the second one focuses on dark skin tones. By looking at the palettes I can tell that Laura understands the color theory – the palettes aren’t built on one color, where the rest of the palette is just the same color but more or less saturated. Instead, she provides us with different hues, that help with shading the skin.

I love the example images attached to the palettes, you can notice that the blue color was used for shades in the light-skinned model’s portrait, whereas in the dark-skinned model’s portrait, the blue color was used for lightening the skin.

Check out Laura’s Instagram account to find her painting tips (she often includes what exact colors she used for painting) and works in progress: MessyArtss

6. Skin and glitter brushes for Procreate by Taozipie [FREE]

View brushes (22)

File Types Included: .BRUSHSET
Software compatibility: Procreate

At first, it was hard to pinpoint the source of this brush set. It’s probably one of the most popular free brushes for painting portraits in Procreate, and therefore often included in other websites – still, despite the author’s statement “Please don’t repost/redistribute, if you’d like to share, use the link!”, I’ve spotted many sites that just downloaded the whole pack to offer direct downloads from their sites.

It’s not cool, but I understand why this pack is so popular – Taozipie’s artworks are alluring, and therefore it brings the attention of artists who try to achieve in their portraits the “Instagram” look (perfect glowing skin with no blemishes, only freckles allowed).

So, in this pack, you will find freckles and glitter brushes. Taozipie gives us a tip on how to use them:

Freckles – Multiply, using soft and hard stamps to make each piece differ in size
Glitter – Add (Luminosity), also using soft and hard stamps to make each piece differ in size

7. Skin Texture and Pores Brushset by Taozipie

Another pack created by Taozipie provides us 8 Shadow stamps and 21 Skin brushes. Whereas the previous pack focuses more on glitter and freckles, this one has skin textures and pores.

The skin textures can be lightly brushed on, while the shadows are best used as stamps.

“FREE FRECKLES 1.0.0” is a pack created by Paul aka Penpanstudio, and as you can probably guess, it’s entirely dedicated to freckle brushes. The brushes differ in size, density, and lightness, there’s also a “random freckle” brush for adding even more details.

So if you are here looking specifically for freckle brushes, this is the pack you should check out.

Free Glitter & Texture set created by Ruby Caurlette.
Caurlette is an artist who is quite popular on Instagram for her amazing portraits. She often adds glitters as an enhancement to the portraits, and therefore they are a big part of her brush set.

She doesn’t add any descriptions and explanations to her brushes, but I guess that the 5 starts from over 100 ratings that this brush set received speaks for itself!

Another brush pack that was created by Caurlette. Here she included actual skin textures – 5 brushes + freckles brush. The rest of the pack are complementary brushes for adding glitter and other shiny particles.

“My Skin Brushes” is a very small pack of 3 brushes that imitate freckles. The brushes’ outline is soft, so the brushes are quite useful for adding a gentle skin texture/noise to portraits.

They were created by Levent ÖZGÜLER a freelance writer, artist, and graphic designer. He specializes in painting realistic portraits, and I highly recommend you to check out his artworks on his Artstation page.

12. 61 Skin Brushes for High Realism

Here’s Laura’s H. Rubin pack of 61 skin brushes for beginners and pros.

In comparison to other packs, it includes brushes that can be used for painting the make-up. So apart from the standard skin brushes (pores, pigments, freckles, etc. – based on real skin) you can find here such brushes as Lip Highlights, glitters, Eyelashes, Smudged Eyeliner, and blurred eyeliner.

Also, it’s worth noting that this pack includes also a few other brushes that could help you to imitate traditional media: canvas texture, paper texture, Noise brush for analog effect, watercolor, and pencil brush.

So overall, it has much more than just the skin brushes

Bonus: there’s also an additional video tutorial about how to use the brushes to create realistic-looking skin! (It contains information about brushes from this pack).

Here’s a pack created by Kristy of 15 incredibly realistic brushes – they can be divided into 3 groups – for skin texture, for highlights, and for white hair.

I didn’t see such brushes as “white hair” in other sets and I have to admit that it definitely fulfills its role in drawing the facial hair. So kudos to the creator for this brush!

Take a look at this video tutorial to see these brushes in action:

Joanna created a very interesting brush set – “14 Skin and Hair Brushes”, which is a position for all artists who want their procreate portraits to imitate the pencil artworks.

The skin texture brushes remind me of a paper’s texture after shading with a pencil, therefore it’s a perfect complementary set for your other pencil brushes.
Moreover, not only you will find here skin texture brushes and freckles, but also brushes that will help you to draw hair.

Ioanna Ladopoulou is an author of many other great brushes, and an incredible artist. You can find her realistic portraits and other brushes on her blog: https://ioannaladopoulou.design/
I also highly recommend subscribing to her YouTube channel: JoannaVuDigital – you can watch the whole process (right from the first line) of her beautiful portraits!

17. Monster skin Brush Set

Software compatibility: Procreate 5.0+, Photoshop CC+

Ha! Here’s an answer for those who are searching for skin brushes – not for painting the human skin – but for painting the animals’ skin.

Ok, maybe you won’t be able to paint with them every animal’s skin, but it definitely has brushes that will help you perhaps with painting the elephant’s body. This set will be a great asset if you like to draw monsters and other creatures (well, as you can probably guess from the promo image).

So, in this pack, you will find 33 brushes imitating skin, raw meat, ribs, and wounds

Please be aware these won’t give you the final result within one brush stroke! They either need some overpaint or need some base if you use them as overlay textures

The brush set was created by Zsolt Kosa, and you can check out his artworks on artstation: Zsolt Kosa

18. Safari Brushes

View brushes(55)

File Types Included: .BRUSHSET
Software compatibility: Procreate

And here you have over 55 brushes that imitate the skin texture of various animals.

It’s definitely the right set if you want to paint the snake’s skin or other reptiles. Moreover, you will also find here brushes suitable for painting the skin texture of other animals, such as leopards.

The set was created by Sergio, and he has a lot of interesting brushes on his Etsy shop, so if you like this pact, I highly recommend you to see the rest of his brush sets!

Do you know a skin brush set that isn’t listed here, but is worth recommending?

If yes, then please let me know in the comments 🙂  Also, feel free to share your opinion, I’m curious which set looks the most interesting to you. I hope this article helped you to find what you needed!
